  • The Wisdom Teeth bosses weave two hours of hypnotic techno, garage, electro and house like only they can.

  • With their Wisdom Teeth label, British artists Facta and K-LONE are at the vanguard of a sound that mixes New Age-inspired ambient music with loopy tech house and the staggered swing of Bristol techno. Now split between the West Country hotspot and Brighton, the duo have perfected a balance of carefully considered LPs and wicked club EPs, making Wisdom Teeth one of the most essential labels in the UK right now. As DJs, their sound leans more towards the clubbier end of Wisdom Teeth—and don't sleep on K-LONE's lovely other labels: Sweet 'n' Tasty (for garage) and Wych (dubstep-ish)—but they've got a softer approach than many of their Bristol peers. It's clubby, but it's more hypnotic and loopy than loud and banging. The duo jump through a fair amount of sounds—and you'll still get some bass wobbles—touching on tracks from Genius Of Time, The Martinez Brothers, Addison Groove, DJ Slugo and more, bridging not only genres but local scenes and continents. There's a measured and steady touch to the way they DJ, like musicians who know their instruments like the back of their hand, and as always, it's a pure pleasure to hear them put tracks together like only they can. What have you been up to recently? We've just returned home from a three-week tour of Australia and New Zealand, which was amazing. We met so many great people out there and played some of the best gigs we've played in a while. It felt like a real honour to be able to travel to the other side of the world and do what we do and for people to be into it. Huge thanks to anyone that came down to watch us play—we had the best time. How and where was the mix recorded, and can you tell us the idea behind the mix? We recorded the mix together right after arriving back in the UK from tour. Playing so many extended sets together in quick succession gave us an amazing opportunity to really hone in on the way we want to approach our sets, so hopefully this mix stands as a solid example of what we do! We cover a fair bit of ground across two hours with plenty of unreleased music from us and the extended crew. What's one club or party that had a major impact on you as an artist? It's an obvious answer, but for both of us FWD>> and DMZ were far and away the biggest influences growing up. More recently, a special shout goes to Nowadays in NYC.  Wisdom Teeth feels like both a club label and a "home listening" label, especially when it comes to the albums. How do you balance these two sides of your productions? It comes pretty naturally really—we both listen to plenty of club and non-club music, and enjoy writing and playing both sides, too. We don't generally play particularly hard club music either, so there's not a massive gap to bridge between that and the stuff we listen to at home. Tell us about your back-to-back dynamic. Who brings what? What are your individual styles? Overall there's a lot of overlap but generally K-LONE brings the extra vocal bangers, while Facta supplies the wonky curveballs.  What's one social or political cause you want the world to pay more attention to? It would be wrong at this point to say anything other than we echo the calls everywhere for a ceasefire in Palestine, and our hearts break for the millions of innocent lives currently affected throughout the region. It's beyond painful to watch the situation spiral so totally out of control and for our governments to do absolutely nothing about it. We should also add that it felt particularly pertinent watching the conflict flare up while in Australia, where the indigenous voice referendum had just been debated and was, infuriatingly, defeated. On opposite ends of the globe we were watching the ongoing effects of displacement and oppression, and as Brits it's impossible not to feel a deep sense of shame for our country's ongoing role in this.  What are you looking forward to in the near future? Next year we're celebrating ten years of Wisdom Teeth so there's lots in the works including records, merch, events and live shows. You'll be sick of us by 2025! In the meantime we're releasing an incredible new LP by Salamanda at the beginning of November. There's a new K-LONE EP on the way on Sweet 'n' Tasty and there will be a new Facta EP dropping on Wisdom Teeth early next year.
